SENSORY TRANSLATION
Workshop by Surface Area Dance Theatre
Monday 4 March 2024
2.30pm-5.30pm
The Lowry Studio 3
Surface Area Dance Theatre is committed to promoting equality by building awareness and an understanding of culture, art, and language through their work. They deliver artistic and socially engaged activities, including specially designed sound and movement workshops led by Nicole Vivien Watson and Tom White, where participants are introduced to SubPac haptic technology – wearable technology – that translates sound to vibration.
SubPac is a tactile audio platform that combines hardware, software, and advanced materials to deliver low-frequency information; when in contact with the body, the SubPac translates sound as vibration. The experience creates an embodiment response, allowing wearers to feel the sound of music.
Who this is for – this is suitable for sound and movement artists and those who explore both disciplines, and people who are D/deaf, hard of hearing and non-disabled people. BSL Interpretation will be provided.
Come prepared to move.
