Seeing off 2024 from our Lowry Access Ambassador!

Michael Allen became Lowry’s first Access Ambassador in February 2024. Michael is visually impaired and has a guide dog named Olga. His passion for visiting the theatre, especially to enjoy audio-described performances alongside a background in customer services made him the ideal candidate to become an Access Ambassador for Lowry. He is a member of various visually impaired groups in the region and also takes pleasure in playing the keyboard and guitar, singing, and indulging in a good audiobook.

As an existing Lowry Access member who is deeply passionate about audio description, Michael is eager to highlight and champion the comprehensive range of accessible options available at Lowry, including BSL, captioned performances, relaxed events, and other specialised Access provisions. His goal is to connect with a diverse audience and various groups to raise awareness about these offerings that might still be undiscovered by many. Collaborating with him and partnering with local organisations will enable us to showcase Lowry’s exceptional services to a broader audience and enhance the existing features we have to offer and ensure we are continuing to be an inclusive organisation to be best of our ability.

“Looking back over the past year, I’m amazed by the incredible access we’ve provided at Lowry. We started the year with a couple of shows: Fantastically Great Women Who Changed the World and The King and I, a classic musical and a new one that may go far.

I’ve thoroughly enjoyed working for Lowry and sharing their access provision. This year, I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many people who come to our shows. As we look to 2025, we have a wide range of shows, exhibitions, and more in store.”
