ABOUT LEWY’S DEVELOPED WITH PROJECT
DOUBLE BOOKING
Lewys will collaborate with dancer and artist Eleanor Sikorski to create a performance which uses instant composition to explore ideas of communication, comedy and musicality.
In DOUBLE BOOKING two dancers pose as orchestra conductors in the midst of a major scheduling error. There’s only room for one of them, who (or what) will survive?
The piece will be structured around one theatrical conceit: two orchestral conductors (performed by Holt & Sikorski) have been booked for one concert. The audience never sees the orchestra or the concert, instead the performers launch into an unpredictable and chaotic sequence: a combination of naturalistic, abstract and choreographic scenes which both explain and complicate the situation.
Integrating BSL throughout the process, the piece will explore the possibilities of communication - across art forms, languages, and ways of being. It will investigate how meaning is made and shared through movement, sound, and sign, and how different modes of expression can speak to one another in rich and surprising ways.
“My parents used to drive us over to Lowry from Scarborough when I was growing up. I was quite heavily into Batman at the time but those trips opened my eyes to the possibilities of spending my time sharing my weird dreams with other people through art-making. I’m delighted that Lowry have invited me to share some of these dreams over the next 18 months.” – Lewys Holt
