THE LOWRY WELCOMES ITS NEW COHORT OF DEVELOPED WITH ARTISTS

The Lowry (Salford) last week welcomed the cohort of new artists joining its flagship Developed With The Lowry programme at a special launch event.

Invited guests heard presentations from the six artists who are all based across the North of England; including British-Iranian dance artist, Bobak Champion; performance artist Tania Camara; visually impaired & neurodivergent actor, theatre maker and creative captioner Alice Christina Corrigan; comedian Edy Hurst; Iranian artist and producer based in West Yorkshire, Nikta Mohammadi; and Yorkshire-based artist and freelance creative producer Lauren Yvonne Townsend.

The artists will work closely with The Lowry’s Artist Development team from Autumn/Winter 2022 to Spring 2024 to develop brand new work. Audiences will get the chance to meet the Developed With The Lowry cohort and experience their work first-hand over the next 12-18months.

Guests, who included industry leaders, partners, and supporters were also able to meet some of The Lowry’s Associate Artists; a cohort of mid-career and established artists and companies who are making nationally and internationally touring work, and tackling some of the challenges of our industry. This includes singer-songwriter and composer Finn Anderson and theatre companies Police Cops and The Letter Room. Guests were also treated to a performance of songs from Finn Anderson’s new musical ‘The Playroom’.

Antonia Beck, Senior Producer: Artist Development, at The Lowry said: The Lowry has a nationally visible profile as a leader in the field of artist development, championing this as an area of specialist practice that is crucial to ensuring the health and vitality of the arts and culture sector and encouraging the development of a national understanding of best practice. Through our Artist Development programmes we nurture talent, support the creation of bold and dynamic new work, and develop the creative professionals and cultural leaders of the future.

“We are delighted to welcome our new cohort of Developed With artists; six early to mid-career artists who are establishing their practice and creative identity, and now looking for time, space and support to take a significant step forward in their work. And for the first time we are thrilled to be working with visual and moving image artist Nikta Mohammadi as part of our Developed With programme, who will work closely with Zoe Watson, our Contemporary Curator and the wider Galleries team to develop a new exhibition that will open at The Lowry as part of our EDITS programme in Autumn 2023.”
