A Tale of Forbidden Love and Longing

A powerful exploration of love, loss, and longing by Beirut-based choreographer and dancer Ali Chahrour. Inspired by the tragic story of Mohamed Bin Daoud, a revered Iraqi jurist whose devotion to a young man consumed him until his final breath, The Love Behind My Eyes is a powerful testimony of forbidden love—where lovers perish with eyes wide open, staring into the gaze that once gave them life. Cast in deep shadows and with rich haunting music the two performers take us on an emotional meditation on desire, devotion, and the fatal cost of love.

Rooted in Arabic lyrical poetry and entwined bodies, Chahrour’s work transcends Western conventions, drawing from the rich traditions, political tensions, and religious undercurrents of his heritage. The Love Behind My Eyes continues his critically acclaimed series on love, following performances at Avignon Festival and major international stages.

Co-presented with Shubbak Festival 2025 - A Window on Contemporary Arab Cultures.
