Rush Theatre Company presents: The King of Reggae – The Man – The Music at The Lowry, Salford on Sunday 16 April 2023

From the company that brought you the critically acclaimed RUSH – A Joyous Jamaican Journey, comes this new production THE KING OF REGGAE – THE MAN – THE MUSIC.

From a Government yard in Trenchtown to Rastafari Icon, this brand new narrated musical charts the life and times of the King of Reggae, touching every aspect of the Jamaican superstar’s musical, spiritual and political life and the impact his music was to have worldwide.

Featuring over 20 of his iconic hits, hear the story of the man and enjoy the music the show features songs like One Love, No Woman No Cry and Is This Love all played live on stage by the incredible The King of Reggae Band.

IKA takes on the challenging role of singing these inspirational songs and he has already received critical acclaim for his performance.

IKA a singer of great pedigree, and a recording artist in his own right, IKA was a founding member of SKO who were very successful in France then went solo writing for Cece Peniston and Carleen Anderson as well as the score for the Lowdown Project. IKA was also an original cast member in RUSH A Joyous Jamaican Journey.

Reed Bass, Musical Director Since graduating with honours in 1998 from Birmingham Conservatoire, Reed has performed, recorded and programmed with a wide range of artists including The Drifters, Heatwave, Lighthouse Family, Musical Youth, Soweto Kinch, Busted, Mis-teeq to name a few. Most recently, he has been the Musical Director for a number of theatre shows including Motown Memories, This Is It – a tribute to Shirley Bassey and One Moment In Time – Whitney Houston tribute.

The King of Reggae Band features musicians who have played with the likes of George McCrae, Overproof Sound System, Chaka Khan, Pato Banton, Ruby Turner to name just a few.
