The Lowry nominated for Community Project of the Year in The Stage Awards 2023 for its 'Show Selectors' initiative

The Lowry is proud to announce it has been nominated for Community Project of the Year for  the ‘Show Selectors’ initiative in The Stage Awards 2023.

The annual awards run by the industry bible The Stage celebrate excellence in British theatre and The Lowry is delighted to be nominated for Show Selectors.

Show Selectors is a dynamic and varied group of people – many of whom are not regular theatregoers – from across Salford who form The Lowry’s new community programming panel, supported by the Esmée Fairbairn Foundation. They work together with The Lowry to learn about theatre and programming and manage a budget and select the shows they think our communities want to see in the places that are accessible to them. The aim of Show Selectors is to make sure everyone has a chance to experience the joy and magic of live performances.

In addition to the Show Selectors nomination, The Lowry’s commissioned work Odds On by Dante or Die is also nominated in the Digital Project of the Year category.

Alistair Smith, editor of The Stage, said: “The Stage Awards shortlist showcases the extraordinary quality and astonishing variety of work being undertaken across the UK. Our shortlisted organisations come from across the country, including nominees from Belfast, Bolton, Derby, Leicester, Liverpool, Newcastle and Perth, while also reflecting work that has taken place on small fringe stages, in tents and large proscenium theatres, on screen or via virtual reality headsets and even within the live environment of an online computer game.

“Despite the huge difficulties that theatre has faced over the past two years, these shortlists underline the fact that it is bouncing back and that companies of all types continue to create outstanding work for audiences everywhere. Any of our shortlisted organisations would be worthy winners and we look forward to celebrating with them all on January 30 at Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.”

The Stage Awards in association with Tysers Insurance Brokers celebrate the very best achievements in UK theatre during the past 12 months. The awards recognise performing arts organisations and teams who have been making fantastic work and those helping to shape and rebuild the sector for the better.

Winners will be announced on January 30, 2023 at a ceremony at Theatre Royal Drury Lane, London
