The Lowry Christmas Appeal is BACK: Arts centre on mission to help children & young people across Salford bounce back from the impact of COVID-19

The Lowry’s annual Christmas Appeal relaunches today on a mission to help children and young people across Salford bounce back from the societal side effects of COVID-19.

The arts centre on Salford Quays is fundraising to help young people with complex mental health issues, those who are isolated, disconnected and lonely as a result of the pandemic and those who missed out on education and other opportunities during lockdown.

Julia Fawcett OBE, chief executive of The Lowry, said: “Vulnerable children and young people are among the hardest hit by the pandemic and we’re only just seeing the real scale and impact of that disadvantage.

“Through our Christmas Appeal we will provide safe creative spaces where young people can make new friends, build confidence and develop new skills. We will also look to help them discover new opportunities and next steps to help them move on from what has been a very difficult 18 months.”

The Christmas Appeal launches as The Lowry prepares for a busy Christmas, with headline shows The Lion, The Witch & The Wardrobe, SIX and Stick Man all set to take to the stage. In the galleries, a major retrospective by Jock McFadyen is on display alongside the permanent LS Lowry collection.
