POWERFUL ONE-MAN PLAY ‘FAR GONE’ COMES TO SALFORD’S LOWRY THIS OCTOBER
Written and performed by John Rwothomach
Directed by Mojisola Kareem
A Roots Mbili Theatre Production
Originally co-produced with Sheffield Theatres
Inspired by John Rwothomach’s own real-life experience of nearly being kidnapped by the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA), Far Gone is a profoundly moving story of a young boy’s journey from childhood innocence to child soldier. Told with humour, poetry, and startling physical theatre, Okumu’s experience strikes straight at the heart through a powerful one-man performance.
“If I invited you to come with me on a journey, a story, will you come with me?”
Set in Northern Uganda, Far Gone follows Okumu as his village is attacked by the LRA, changing his and his brother’s lives forever.
First performed in 2019, and following a highly successful national tour in 2022 co-produced by Sheffield Theatres, Far Gone now returns to the global stage with performances in the USA, Taiwan, South Africa, and the UK. The production comes to Salford’s Lowry from 8th – 10th October 2025. Tickets available at: thelowry.com
“This play is not about me, the kid who was lucky enough to escape. This play is for the hundreds of thousands who did not. For the future generations who will continue to suffer the trauma the LRA has imprinted on them, for many years to come.”
