This introductory workshop offers an insight into how intimacy is approached and integrated within performance and creative practice. You’ll learn about the role of the intimacy director, consent-based working methods, and how these practices support both the creative process and the wellbeing of all involved.
Together, we’ll explore the idea of intimacy in the arts and how it might relate to your own work—whether conceptually, physically, or emotionally.
Who is it for?
This session is for artists working across theatre, dance, visual art, film, and other mediums where their practice involves intimacy, physical contact, nudity, or explorations of the body.

About Monica Nicolaides
Monica Nicolaides is a movement choreographer, director and intimacy director in dance, theatre, opera and film.
A featured choreographer for One Dance UK and Hiive’s ‘One-to-watch’, she received support for her work by Arts Council England, DanceEast, NT Studio, IdeasTap Innovators Fund, Candoco Dance Company, Hiive, Clarence Mews Studios and bbodance. Her commissioned work was performed at Edinburgh Fringe Festival, Oxford Playhouse, The Place, Riley Theatre, The Blue Elephant Theatre, Edinburgh Zoo, Lost Theatre and featured on BBC Persia, The Forumist and various international film festivals.
Monica's practice explores body language, human behaviour and relationships in current society. Drawing from her training and experience as a professional dancer, microgestures and other art forms, she collaborates with other creatives to develop multifaceted characters and stories, and visually striking shapes for the stage and screen.
Her portfolio includes works with The Barbican, Scottish Opera, Royal Opera House, Guildhall, Royal Academy of Music, Jermyn Street Theatre, Park Theatre, Peregrina EnChantica, Third Row Dance Company, Hampstead Garden Opera, English Touring Opera, Dance Digital, Hallidonto, Homs Arthaus, University of Cumbria, and several filmed works with Isla Rose, Lucy Tun, The Glare, The Forumist amongst others.
