Workshop: Assault on the Leviathan
Wed 26 Feb 2025, 7pm-9.30pm
John Powell-Jones will be hosting an introduction to a new RPG style game called, Assault On The Leviathan, made in collaboration with John Howes. In this workshop, John will share his artistic practice of world building, comics, science fiction, horror and gaming.
Who this is for: This workshop is suited to artists, creatives, theatre practitioners, facilitators who have an interest in contemporary fine art, and or gaming/comic book culture.
About the Assault On The Leviathan: Assault on the Leviathan is a storytelling and puzzle-solving game that encourages players to think creatively and collaborate in shaping the narrative. While there will be hints and clues to guide you, there are no strictly “right” answers. How the challenges are overcome depends on the choices you as the Games Master and the players make.
Players should be encouraged to use their characters’ unique skills, personalities, and knowledge to explore the world and find solutions to the tasks at hand.
About John Powell-Jones
My practice deals with themes of perception, power structures and personal reality, an on going exploration into how the warped western view of progress and success can act to inform our perception of morality.
These ideas are explored through the use of speculative fiction and presented across various mediums including, video, performance, animation and comic books. Taking inspiration from body and survival horror, European folklore and science fiction (specifically the cyberpunk sub genre).
My aim is to form a dialogue between our present and an imagined dystopian future in which the horrors of capitalism and neo-liberal ideology are presented as cyborgs and demons.
