Lowry and the Beginning
– David Scott
Ever wondered what it takes to conceive and create a multi purpose world class arts venues on a disused dock?
The industrial decline of the 1980s left Salford docks unused and empty, but this is not how it would remain. Hear the story of a group of dedicated people, gaining local and national support, campaigning for a space to bring world class art to Salford. Before the first brick was laid, there were ideas, campaigns, community consultations, trips to London, to ballet, lottery winners and local heroes. We take you to Lowry, before there was even a building to step foot in.
Produced by David Scott - Manc poet, author, BBC presenter, podcaster, producer, actor, and musician. Known professionally as ARGH KiD, David blends sharp social insight with a distinctive creative voice that swings between heartfelt, humorous, and unapologetically honest.
As Lowry turns 25, we’re marking this milestone with a powerful new project that honours the voices, memories and people who’ve shaped our journey, and the transformation of Salford Quays. One Lowry, Many Stories is made possible thanks to funding from The National Lottery Heritage Fund.
