RADICAL FRENCH DANCE COLLECTIVE (LA)HORDE HITS LOWRY THIS SEPTEMBER AS PART OF LINK UP WITH RAMBERT

Rambert X (LA)HORDE: Bring Your Own

16 - 18 September 2025

Lowry, Salford

Rambert and (LA)HORDE unite for a groundbreaking dance experience at Lowry, Salford this September. Featuring three electrifying works, including a brand-new commission, “Bring Your Own” promises to challenge, inspire, and captivate.

Opening with a new piece, Hop(e)storm, especially created for the Rambert dancers alongside two restagings of (LA)HORDE'S most iconic pieces Weather is Sweet and Room with a View, the programme promises to be gritty, sensual, and fiercely real.

Commissioned exclusively for Rambert dancers, Hop(e)storm channels the rhythms, energy and spirit of Lindy Hop through a post-internet rave lens, reawakening its call for equality and freedom in today’s world.

Founded in 2013, (LA)HORDE is a Paris-based collective of artists—Marine Brutti, Jonathan Debrouwer, and Arthur Harel—who are redefining contemporary dance in a post-internet world. Emerging from the city’s queer club scene, the trio creates choreographic works, films, and installations that explore movement as a tool for storytelling and social commentary. Since 2019, they have served as artistic directors of the Ballet National de Marseille, using the platform to challenge traditional hierarchies in dance and champion inclusivity. Their collaborations span global icons such as Madonna, Sam Smith, and Christine and the Queens, and their work often features performers from diverse, non-traditional backgrounds, reflecting their commitment to breaking down artistic and cultural boundaries.

With nods to their previous works To Da Bone and Marry Me in Bassiani, (LA)HORDE continues its exploration of post-internet dance forms, reflecting on the evolution of tradition and heritage. Hop(e)storm serves both as a tribute and a foundation, bridging the choreographic journey that leads to Weather is Sweet (2023) and Room With A View (2020).

Drenched in neon lights and inspired by the LA club scene, Weather is Sweet catapults audiences into very contemporary questions over intimacy, consent and sex-positivity.

Visceral and punchy, A Room with a View forces us to look in the mirror and ask - what do I care about?

Of working with Rambert on Bring Your Own, (LA)HORDE have said: “Permanent dance companies in Europe today are precious spaces, true heterotopias. Working with Rambert, our first collaboration with another repertoire company, has reaffirmed how these structures create opportunities to work with exceptional dancers in a collective creative process. Rambert reflects our core values of diversity and inclusion, with dancers who bring extraordinary generosity to every step of the artistic journey."

Eckhard Thiemann – Programming Associate: Dance at Lowry said: “(LA)HORDE is one of the most in-demand and hippest companies around. Their work is ferociously energetic as it is intelligent, drawing from a wide range of influences from fashion and pop culture, to abstract dance and raving. We are very excited to bring this inspirational collaboration between Rambert and (LA)HORDE to Salford.”
