CARLOS ACOSTA’S ACCLAIMED PRODUCTION OF DON QUIXOTE RETURNS WITH A UK TOUR - COMING TO LOWRY, SALFORD THIS MARCH
Following a hugely successful autumn 2025 tour of Black Sabbath - The Ballet, playing to over 42,000 people, Birmingham Royal Ballet will present a UK tour of Carlos Acosta’s acclaimed production of Don Quixote in the spring of 2026 – including a three‑day run at Lowry, Salford from Thursday 5 to Saturday 7 March.
The UK’s premiere touring ballet company will present Don Quixote in four venues across the country, beginning with a season at the company’s home venue of Birmingham Hippodrome from 12-21 February 2026. The production will then tour to Lowry, Salford (5-7 March), Plymouth Theatre Royal (18-21 March), Mayflower Theatre, Southampton (15-18 April) and London’s Sadler’s Wells Theatre (23-25 April).
Having premiered Don Quixote to great audience and critical acclaim in the spring of 2022, Birmingham Royal Ballet Director, Carlos Acosta, will present the first revival of his sunny, vivacious and visually stunning production for all ages.
In 2022, the production was filmed for cinema and broadcast on BBC TV where it has been seen by over 95,000 people.
Don Quixote introduces us to Cervantes’ famous knight himself, lovers Kitri and Basilio, and a host of supporting characters. As the Don sets out on a quest to track down his true love, with his loyal friend and servant Sancho Panza at his side, he finds himself embroiled in an unlikely adventure of love and dreams.
Carlos Acosta said: “It is a real joy to be reviving Don Quixote for UK audiences in 2026, bringing the heat of the Spanish sunshine to kick-start spring time. This production features everything from daring dance and cape-twirling matadors to beautiful costumes and stunning scenery.
“As always, Birmingham Royal Ballet remains committed to bringing the very best of ballet to venues across the UK - ensuring audiences across the country have access to leading and entertaining dance from some of the world’s finest artists, including our guest dancers from National Ballet of Canada, a very special treat for our Birmingham audiences.”
Carlos Acosta’s Don Quixote comes to Lowry, Salford from Thursday 5th to Saturday 7th March. Tickets are available now from thelowry.com
