WTF Wednesday presents Stacy Makishi: The Comforter

Wed 21 November

WTF Wednesday: Stacy Makishi – The Comforter

This event has passed

TICKETS SOLD OUT. However as this is a Pay What You Decide event, some people who have reserved tickets may not turn up on the night so you are welcome to come along on Wednesday to see if there are any tickets returned.

Presented by The Lowry and Word of Warning

Part ritual; part prayer; part rowdy revivalist rally, The Comforter is a rite of passage that reclaims spirituality and proposes a new perspective on church. Exchanging psalms and sacrament for 80’s/90’s pop culture, it draws inspiration from Twin Peaks and Ingmar Bergman and throws a kiss to George Michael.

The Comforter follows the powerfully moving and absurdly humorous Vesper Time (“a gorgeous hymn…for fearlessness, truth and love” Exeunt) that toured the UKTogether they make up the first two in a three-show series about the Holy Trinity. The Comforter is the Holy Ghost of the trio and it asks the question: ‘What am I unwilling to feel?’

Stacy is a multi-award winning artist who has been making work for 30 years. Join her to explore – through meditation, ritual and disco – what it means to be fully alive and fully human.

Co-commissioned by The Yard Theatre, Marlborough Theatre, Norwich Arts Centre and Colchester Arts Centre. Supported using public funding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England and produced by Artsadmin.

WTF Wednesdays are a brand new spanking series of evenings celebrating cutting edge contemporary theatre for the most creatively curious of cats.

Bag a ticket. Grab a drink. Who ever said asking ‘WT actual F’ was a bad thing?

This is a Pay a What You Decide event. WTF? Reserve your tickets, come along, see the show and decide how much you want to pay afterwards!

As this is a Pay What You Decide event, we know some people who book tickets won’t turn up on the night so we send out more tickets than there are places. We do our best to get the numbers right but we advise you arrive early to ensure you get a seat! We don’t often have to disappoint people but if we can’t fit you in we will try to offer you tickets to another show in The Lowry that night.

Take A Risk

Find out more about our Pay What You Decide Season

The Lowry is at the forefront of presenting some of UK’s most pioneering, genre-bending new performance and we would like to share it with you. Pay What You Decide not only allows you to pay what you can afford, rather than a fixed ticket price, but removes the financial risk of buying a ticket for a show without knowing if you will enjoy it or not. All money collected will help us pay the artists who have performed and allow them to continue creating new and exciting work.

We currently have two PWYD shows available to whet your appetite – WTF Wednesday which is a series of evenings for the compulsively curious featuring frontrunners from the frontiers of contemporary theatre making, and our Digital programme.
