ICAT: Vinegar Tom
“I’m not a witch. But I wish I was.”
The signs of witchcraft blight the land. Cattle are dying, butter won’t churn and men’s privates wither. Who’s to blame? The women of course- the unmarried mother, the beggar, the cunning woman, the woman that no man loves or wants.
ICAT Manchester revive Caryl Churchill’s resonant play for a deeply divided 21st Century Britain; set over a few weeks in a conflicted and discordant 17th Century England, Vinegar Tom is a play about why witch hunts happen when there are no witches.
