Tue 23 April - Sat 27 April
English Touring Theatre present
Inspired by a true story, Peter Shaffer’s gripping psychological thriller, Equus, explores the complex relationships between devotion, myth and sexuality. This gripping new production is directed by the award-winning Ned Bennett.
When teenager Alan Strang’s pathological fascination leads him to blind six horses in a Hampshire stable, psychiatrist Dr. Martin Dysart is tasked with uncovering the motive behind the boy’s violent act. As Dysart delves into Alan’s world of twisted spirituality, passion and sexuality, he begins to question his own sanity and motivations in a world driven by consumerism.
Equus is a co-production between UK Theatre Award winners English Touring Theatre and Theatre Royal Stratford East.
Workshops with the Creative Team
ETT’s physical workshop is designed to expand and provide an insight into on the development process of Equus. Within these sessions we take students through how the production came together from casting through to tech. This workshop is designed to give students a taste of the exercises the company undertook throughout the rehearsal process to devise the show; exploring inspiration from drama techniques such as Anne Bogart and Tina Landa’s Viewpoints.
Each workshop runs for 1.5 hours, for up to 30 students (dependant on available space), and is either run by Equus Director, Ned Bennett, or Assistant Director, Denzel Westley Sanderson. We recommend a minimum of 8 students taking part and available space will indicate how many students can partake in each workshop.
We recommend the workshop takes place once your group has seen the production, these workshops could be held on Wed 23 April. If this does not work around your schedule, please do let us know another day that might work between Wed 23 – Sat 27 April 2019 if you are interested.
There is a fee for each workshop, however if this is not financially viable for your organisation, please do get in contact and we are happy to discuss further options.
Workshops are only available in the Greater Manchester area.
Alongsid the productions, we offer our Equus Education Pack which includes discussion topics, exercises and links to other resources.
If you would like to take part in the workshop, require an education pack or have any further questions please email Craig.
