Chisato Minamimura celebrates and explores personal histories and historical accounts of women and tattooing cultures. Featuring movement, digital animation and vibration-based Woojer technology, hidden and untold female stories about bodies and body marking are brought to life in a multi-sensory experience.

This performance of Mark of A Woman uses Woojer straps, which are available to book with tickets for this performance on selected seats. Woojer Straps are vibrating belts designed to offer an additional sensory experience for audiences by enabling the user to feel sound vibration.

Commissioned by The Place and BAC, supported using public funds from Arts Council England. Supported by Pavilion Dance South West, Wellcome Collection and Auckland Arts Festival. Mark of a Woman is an Unlimited UK Partner Award 2023 commission with Southbank Centre made possible thanks to funding from Arts Council England.

★★★★  "Chisato Minamimura is, in every sense of the word, impressive in her latest performance piece, Mark of a Woman. Gliding across the expanse of The Place’s auditorium in this part lecture, part physical theatre, the Deaf Japanese woman (she introduces herself as such) presents a forceful and fascinating history of tattoos." - Liam O’Del
