The Beginning is an alternative dance piece of beginnings: beginnings of shows, beginnings of relationships, beginnings of difficult moments…
Bert and Nasi explore and muse on the different ways they can or could have started their shows and lives working together. Touching on all the joys, difficulties, excitement and exhaustion that comes with beginning again and again.
As a part of the show, they work with a chorus of 15 non professional participants, all aged60 and over. They watch the two dance. They dance simple movements with them. Serving as a gentle reminder that beginnings don’t stop with age and that we can always choose when and how we want to begin.
The piece is a life affirming, surreal meditation on life and relationships. Guiding the audience to a place of emotion and heart with neither performer, audience, or participants knowing exactly how they got there.
Perform at The Lowry with Bert & Nasi!
The Lowry is looking for volunteer, non-professional participants aged 60 and of any gender to take part in a brand-new production by celebrated international theatre-makers Bert and Nasi. Their new production, THE BEGINNING, commissioned by The Lowry, is an alternative dance performance of beginnings – beginnings of shows, beginnings of relationships etc and touches on all the joys, difficulties, excitements and exhaustion that comes with beginning again and again. No experience necessary.
Participants will need to be comfortable walking and moving but do not need to be experienced dancers or movers – it will be very simple. Initially, you will be seated with the audience and will be called to the stage by Bert and Nasi. You will be required to learn a simple dance routine that Bert and Nasi perform towards the middle of the show; you will then stay on stage and be seated on chairs. Later on, towards the end of the show, you will be required to read text projected on the back screen, into microphones.
The performance takes place on Thu 27 April in the Quays Theatre at The Lowry but participants will need to be available for all of the following:
Tue 25 April 2pm-5pm – Workshop 1 (3 hours) at The Lowry
Wed 26 April 2pm-5pm – Workshop 2 (3 hours) at The Lowry
Thu 27 April 2pm-5pm – Workshop 3 (3 hours) then Performance (8pm) at The Lowry
