Directed by Jimmy Fairhurst
Step into a world where ancient myths collide with the modern streets of Salford. GODS OF SALFORD, the latest electrifying production from Not Too Tame, reimagines Greek mythology as raucous, heartfelt tales of working-class defiance and resilience. This immersive, high-energy theatre experience follows a group of young Olympians who dare to rewrite their destinies, confronting the gods who seek to control their lives. As part of Lowry’s 25th anniversary celebrations this production brings together 25 young people from Salford to work alongside three professional actors and Not Too Tame to create a daring, high-energy theatrical adventure that reimagines this Greek myth through the lens of Salford’s working-class spirit. And Together We Create will fund ten community groups to bring to life their own inspiring projects - supporting the talent that makes Salford extraordinary.
Blending mythic storytelling with real stories from local young people and communities, it promises a bold, unapologetic celebration of resilience, identity, and creative power. With a creative process that breaks down traditional barriers the production will unleash untapped talent and transform lived experiences into a dynamic, high-quality show.
This is more than theatre; it’s our Learning & Engagement strategy in action - championing creative potential and place, tackling social inequality head-on, and forging pathways into the arts through hands-on training, paid roles, and a clear call for social change. It’s theatre that ignites possibility, inspires action, and reclaims the stage for Salford’s next generation of storytellers. Exactly the kind of work we should be doing in our 25th year!
