The Lowry is committed to working with education providers and young people to provide access to the arts.
Tapping into the work on our stages and in our galleries, we offer thousands of creative opportunities. If you are coming to see a show or studying a text we can support you to explore it.
Our Creative Learning programme is designed to meet the needs of you as a teacher and your students. We work closely with teachers to create a varied and diverse offer for schools linking to many areas of the curriculum. Whether your class are studying Shakespeare, storytelling, physical theatre, comedy or mindfulness and well-being we can create a workshop or experience specifically for you.

This includes a guided tour of The Lowry building, where you’ll discover some quirky facts about The Lowry’s design and development along with a brief history of the Manchester Ship Canal from Docks to a new leisure destination. You will then have a tour of the Galleries, where you can learn more about our namesake LS Lowry with an introduction to the man and his work. In addition to this, you will also receive a free cup of tea or coffee. All this for just £10 per person! Tours last approximately an hour, and are available between 11am and 3.30pm
If your group are interested solely in a tour of the Galleries, it is possible to book a special tour for a small charge of £5 per person. Tours last approximately 30 minutes and are available daily at either 11am or 1pm. These tours can be tailored to your group needs, and either focus on specific elements of Lowry’s work or give a wider introduction to the man and his work. We can also give tours on our special exhibitions changing throughout the year. To find out more please click the exhibitions tab above.
If your group would like to admire our Galleries at your own pace, it is possible to enter free of charge, though donations are always welcome. As a group of 10 or more we ask that you book your free visit in advance to ensure we have the capacity to accommodate you on your chosen day.
All tours must be booked and paid for at least 2 weeks in advance. Groups are asked to book as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment. If you have any questions, or you would like to make a booking, please contact us on the number below in the Groups Department section.
