ABOUT THE LIVE NOW COMMISSIONS

FOUNTAIN by Yewande 103

Building on Yewande 103’s current body of work around embodied advocacy, Fountain blends together dance and digital watery environments to explore tidal cycles of repair, loss, joy and intimacy. This powerful work draws on the symbolism and psycho-geography of water as inevitably linked to Black histories, embodiments, experiences and mental health.

Guided by choreographer Alexandrina Hemsley’s tightly woven movement score, dancers Rickay Hewitt-Martin, Rudzani Moleya and Shahada Nantaba, cycle through contrasting edits of splashing waves with a darkened theatre space, the trio shift between spectrums of being seen, mirrored & camouflaged by water.

Fountain situates itself amidst the colliding range and scale of experiences within Black subjectivities that water evokes: from the play of running through fountains in the summer, to the significance of oceanic passages and the impacts of colonial carving up of water and selves within Black existences.

Considering the water within our own bodies in relation to the other waters within Earth’s hydrosphere, Fountain tenderly senses our inescapable tides of life and death; welcoming how our watery bodies exist simultaneously as oceans, tombs and sanctuaries.

FOUNTAIN has been developed as part of LIVE NOW – a digital commissioning programme from The Lowry Additional commissioning support from Cambridge Junction. R&D support from The Place and a Wainsgate Dances 2021 residency. Supported using public finding by the National Lottery through Arts Council England.

Odds On by Dante or Die

Following the award-winning video podcast User Not Found, Dante or Die bring you a new, free to watch, interactive short film that’ll have you hooked from the start.

Log in to Pearls of Fortune, the online slots game that’s caught us all in its net, give yourself a fun name, pick an adorable avatar, and plunge beneath the waves for a few spins.

Odds On takes you deep down into the world of online gambling; from that first win, all the way behind the screen to give a game’s-eye view of how your fellow players are really doing.

Follow Felicity, a valued customer, and peer beneath the murky depths to see how a cheeky spin can spiral out of control.

Please Note: This film contains gambling (live play, images, sounds & slot simulation) which may be very triggering to people with a gambling addiction or who are in recovery. If slot machine simulation will be triggering to you, please contact admin@danteordie.com, who will send you a non-interactive version of Odds On.

A Dangerous Thing

Part of The Truth to Power Project

A Dangerous Thing is a new, digitally animated work created in response to a world full of uncertainty.

Proto-type have worked with long-time collaborator, visual artist Adam York Gregory, to continue our socially-engaged exploration of power, democracy, truth-telling, protest, privacy, conspiracy, and control.

Expanding on ideas explored in our recent, critically acclaimed theatre works (A Machine they’re Secretly Building and The Audit), A Dangerous Thing wants to punch its way out of the screen and into our homes.

It wants to shake us up, to wake us up, and to hunt down all those insidious lies, hiding in plain sight, and running ahead of us with their boots on.

Mashing and melding animation styles, original sound and composition, contemporary performance and story-telling, A Dangerous Thing is coming, and it cannot be stopped.
