An opportunity for 4-11 year olds to see their work mounted next to that of LS Lowry!

Children aged 4-11 can now enter a prestigious art competition that could see their work exhibited next to LS Lowry’s most celebrated works of art.

Judged by LS Lowry curator Claire Stewart, the annual winner of this prestigious prize each year receives:

  • their art work framed professionally and hung in The Lowry Galleries alongside the work of LS Lowry for a full year
  • a tour of The Lowry Galleries for their family
  • a choice between a family ticket for a theatre show at The Lowry or a free art workshop for their school.

A runner up is selected each term (3 times a year) and entered into the annual competition, with their work featured in our online gallery.

The Copley Prize at The Lowry is kindly supported by Alison and Noel Copley.

Martha Blue, 10 years old

Picture of The Copley Prize 2018 winner Martha Blue

10-year-old Martha Blue from Alsager in Cheshire is 2018’s prize winner entitled ‘Lowry’s People’. The work has been added to the permanent LS Lowry: The Art & The Artist exhibition and was unveiled by The Lowry’s director of visual arts, Michael Simpson. It will remain on display for one year.

Noel Copley, said: “The competition is all about inspiring young people to create something connected to their experience of Lowry’s work. Martha’s work celebrates his love of crowds and people going about their everyday lives – and yet it also manages to be very contemporary in its nature. That’s what made it stand out for us.”
