The Lowry is delighted to collaborate on this new Edit with Venture Arts, a visual arts organisation in Hulme working with learning disabled and neurodiverse artists to create and showcase exciting new contemporary art.
Narratives is the third cycle of their pioneering ‘Conversations Series’. A summer residency brought together five artists based at Venture Arts to work alongside five other artists to develop shared ideas and create new art work. The project has involved more artists along the way. A collaborative approach to making art has been at the core of this 20-week residency, exploring personal histories and cultural heritage and stories.
This residency culminates in this exhibition as part of the EDIT series at the Lowry, a strand of our programme that enables artists and performers to develop previously unexplored ideas in a gallery setting. The artist cohort will take over the gallery spaces to present Narratives, a multifaceted exhibition fusing a rich tapestry of drawing, film, performance, sound, and installation.
Narratives is a partnership project between Venture Arts, Castlefield Gallery and The Lowry, and associates Ahmed Ullah Iqbal Race Relations Centre, Manchester Jewish Museum, Manchester Museum & Explorers Project.
