Last Chance To See: Exhibition of paintings and drawings that inspired LS Lowry ends this month

An exhibition of paintings and drawings that inspired LS Lowry and influenced some of his own work closes at The Lowry in Salford later this month.

Celebrating the Salford artist’s love of Pre-Raphaelite work, Lowry & The Pre-Raphaelites brings together more than 40 works by Dante Gabriel Rossetti, Ford Madox Brown and other members of the 19th century artist movement.

It closes on Sun 24 February following a nearly four-month run that has seen record visitor numbers in recent months.

Commenting on the success of the exhibition, Julia Fawcett OBE, chief executive of The Lowry, said: “LS Lowry is one of the UK’s most popular artists and to see the work that he admired and he collected gives a different insight into the life of a man so many think they already know everything about.

“It was a long-held ambition to present an exhibition that celebrated Lowry’s passion for Pre-Raphaelite work and we’re grateful to those institutions and individuals that lent work to us – and our exhibition sponsor, Sotheby’s – for making it possible.”

In July 2014, The Lowry galleries were renamed The Andrew and Zoe Law Galleries in recognition of the couple’s £1m donation to the arts centre, which is a registered charity.
